DAPHNE, Ala. — Bayside Academy hosted a head-to-head track and field meet Tuesday with Spanish Fort High at Freedom Track on the Bayside campus.
The Admirals boys and girls teams prevailed over the Toros teams in what was called a mini-meet.
Bayside coach Alan Foster said the competition was helping both schools get ready for the sectional meet coming up.
“I am very happy with the way our meet turned out today and I am extremely pleased with the way the kids competed and behaved,” he said. “Our leaders really helped our younger kids get warmed up, out to their events and to some good marks. Most importantly, the kids represented Bayside well.”
Spanish Fort coach Jacob Schultz said the pre-section tune up was a good idea.
“I think as long as we do what we’re supposed to do, we’ll be OK,” he said. “We have some good kids that work very hard, but it always helps to get in some extra work. This was good preparation.”
Next Thursday Bayside will host the 1A middle school Baldwin County Meet at 4 p.m. Next Friday, SFHS will take part in the 5A Section 1 Meet at McGill-Toolen Catholic in Mobile at 3 p.m.
Foster pointed out some of the high lights of the meet.
“There were several outstanding marks for a meet of this size. Spanish Fort brought a limited number of athletes due to spring break,” he said.
Bayside’s Alona Melendez won both hurdle races — with state-leading times — and the high jump to win three individual events. Emory Builta won the girls' discus with a new school record and personal best throw of 101'7 and Michael Daves won the boys' discus with a personal best toss of 104'0.

Mace, Calametti, Johnson and Jhalen Caffey teamed to run 53.17 in the 4x100Relay to produce the No. 2-best ranked time in 3A.
