FOLEY, Ala. — The third annual BBQ and Blues Cook-off will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Heritage Park in Foley.
The event will include a cook-off competition and bar-b-cue tasting.
The cook-off is open to backyard and professional teams, and the cost for teams to enter the cook-off is $150. Teams can have six people, and additional members cost $10 each.
"Goodrich has 26 people on their team," Terry Burkle, South Baldwin Chamber Foundation vice president, said.
There are different categories that teams can enter into, Burkle said, and the $150 is a flat rate that covers all the categories.
Categories include: best ribs; best butt; anything butt, which Burke said includes seafood; best sauce; best chicken; and people's choice.
"The way the people's choice award works is every team has a bucket at their table, and the public votes by putting money into the bucket," she said.
Teams must make 50 pounds of food for the tasting, Burkle said, but it doesn't have to be the same food submitted for the competition.
"You can buy something cheap like chicken for the tasting, but you don't have to make 50 pounds of food for the judges of the competition, so you can cook your best for them," she said.
Burke said there are 12 teams signed up currently, but she expects the number to increase in the final days leading up to the event.
"I expect around 17-20 teams," she said. "That's what we usually get. We've had teams sign up on the Friday before when we were setting up."
Prizes for the teams include first, second and third place trophies.
Tickets to the tasting costs $10, but children ages 10-and-under can attend for free.
There will also be a silent auction, live entertainment and children's activities at the event.
The silent auction prizes include a gulf condo three-night weekend trip, a butterfly necklace and a $50 Wal-Mart gift card among other prizes. The live entertainment includes the Mudbucket Band, Soul Monkey, Mare Kaul and GCBarstars and Johnny No.
There will also be food vendors serving hot dogs and hamburgers that attendees can purchase in addition to tickets to the tasting.
