United Way of Baldwin County’s campaign thermometer is on the rise, thanks to generous donations from individuals and corporations. For the second year, BB&T presented the organization with a check for $10,000. With the campaign entering its second week, the corporate gift brings United Way to 18 percent of its $905,000 annual goal.
Leah Junkins, BB&T’s retail banking manager for south Alabama said bank executives and employees recognize the importance of giving locally. “This donation is in keeping with BB&T’s mission of making the community where we work a better place to live,” she said.
According to United Way of Baldwin County Executive Director Rebecca Byrne, all campaign donations remain in Baldwin County helping fund the organization’s 42 partner nonprofit agencies. “The annual campaign offers area residents an opportunity to lend a hand to their neighbors at a time when the economy and the oil spill have placed an extra burden on health and human service agencies,” Byrne said.
