FAIRHOPE, Alabama - The Baldwin County High Tigers picked up another area win with a 50-42 finish on the road at Fairhope High's Pirate Gym Friday night.
The Pirates tied the Tigers 28-28 midway in the third quarter on a trey by D. Tre Ervin. But Baldwin County retook the lead 37-33 to start the final period and made 9-of-12 free throws in their 13-9 run down the stretch.
Andre Cox sank 18 points to lead BCHS and the floor while Montez Brown added 10, Xavier Dortch nine and Justin Mayes seven. Nate Andrews led the Pirates with 13 while the Tiger defense held Rushing Watson to 3 points. Watson had the game-high score of 24 points a week earlier against the Tigers in Bay Minette.
Fairhope also struggled at the free-throw line with 6-of-16 shots made. BC was 19-for 28. The Tigers pulled away from an 8-8 tie to start the second period 12-8 and took a 27-21 lead into halftime.
Baldwin County improved to 5-2 overall and remained spotless in their 6A Area 3 race with a 3-0 league record. The Pirates, who got off to a late-season start with several football players only joining the roster recently, fell to 0-2 in 6A Area 3.
But the Pirates rebounded Saturday to defeat Sipsey Valley High School at Fairhope High School 50-48 to get their first win and improve to 1-4 overall.
The Tigers, however, fell at Spanish Fort 56-45 to the No. 4-Ranked 5A Spanish Fort Toros who remain undefeated at 7-0.
BCHS travels to play at Daphne Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in another area contest and will host LeFlore Magnet School Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
Fairhope will host Gulf Shores High at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and welcomes Tate High School (Fla.) Friday at 7 p.m.
