FAIRHOPE, Ala. – The Lady Tigers withstood a strong rally to take a 45-33 Baldwin County High road win at Fairhope on Friday night over the Lady Pirates.
Fairhope trailed by 11 at the half but cut the BCHS lead to six 27-21 at the start of the fourth. With three minutes left the Lady Tiger lead was down to three 36-33.
But Baldwin County then held Fairhope scoreless the rest of the way and added the difference at the other end including four three throws.
The Lady Tigers improved to 8-2, including an area win over Satsuma. The Lady Pirates fell to 4-6.
Latreka Jenkins scored 24 points for BCHS with CoCo Knight adding 10. Nakea McDougal had five. The Lady Tigers went 9-of-15 at the free-throw line. Baldwin County head coach Robert Wills said the pair of Jenkins and Knight have a good offensive chemistry on the court.
"She (Jenkins) can score," he said. "She can put it in the hole. And she's been doing it (scoring in double figures) a lot several times here recently and CoCo's been helping out a lot this year by driving hard to the inside."
Fairhope was led by Megan Dowdy with 11 points and Raven Priolo with 10. Abby Phillips added eight. The Lady Pirates were 5-of-11 at the line.
Fairhope head coach Jessica Webb said her team is struggling to play well throughout all four quarters.
"We have to figure out how to put four quarters of basketball together. We had opportunities. We have been playing well up to the fourth quarter, tonight we didn't play well until the fourth. So, when we get a complete basketball game together and finish, then we'll get a win."
The Lady Pirates' first area game is at Robertsdale Jan. 7.
