BCHS Lady Tigers win big at Spanish Fort

SPANISH FORT, Alabama - With the region championship already sewn up, the visiting Baldwin County Lady Tigers used a fast-paced transitional offense to score easy baskets Tuesday night en route to a convincing 46-22 victory over host Spanish Fort.

The win makes it a season sweep for the Tigers over the Toros. They defeated Spanish Fort 51-31 on Dec. 8. The Tigers had three players who contributed to the easy win but the story Tuesday night was the pressure put on by the defense and the transitional offense.

“That’s the way we try to play the game. We have been working on the pressure all year and we have gotten better as the year has gone along,” Tigers head coach Robert Wills said. “It pays dividends in the end.”

With the win the Tigers continued their road success in the later part of the regular season. They have now won 3-of-4 road games to end the season.

With the area already secured coach Wills had the opportunity to get some quality minutes from his bench that could help them down the road.

“You know we secured our area last week and I am trying to get these kids some playing time,” Coach Wills said. “You want to win every game but at the same time you want some of the younger kids to improve and to get some game experience. To these girls it’s just another game no matter where it’s played.”

For BCHS, junior Latia Pullum led the way with 12 points. Junior Darnisha Maye also had a productive night scoring nine while Denosha Maye added seven.

Pullum, who scored eight of her points in the first half, was part of a big first half that saw the Tigers put up 28 points going into the locker room. Meanwhile the suffocating defense held the Toros to just 15 first half points.

The Tigers outscored the Toros 19-7 in the second half thanks in large part to the continuation of the suffocating defense that was present for the majority of the game. The Toros, who struggled to score for the majority of the evening did get a boost from senior Elaine Wood, who finished the game with a team-high nine points.
