BCHS sweeps past Satsuma Gators

BAY MINETTE- The Baldwin County High School Lady Tigers added another area win to their record Friday night as they defeated Satsuma's Lady Gators 47-31.

Baldwin County took an early 4-0 lead in the first quarter until Dorlicia Martin tied the game at 4-4 with under three minutes left in the quarter. From then on it was all Baldwin County as they led a 17-1 run until Jasmine Brown scored five points for Satsuma late in the second quarter.

Coming back from half time the Lady Gators had a 6-1 run only to be stopped by the Tigers when they had their own 7-0 run led by Tonesha Smith. Third quarter was a back and forth scoring drive with Baldwin County coming out of it with the 34-22 lead.

Fourth quarter was all Baldwin County as the Lady Tigers held the Gators to only nine points with seven of them coming from the foul line as the Tigers win 47-31 going 3-2 in AHSAA 6A area 4 and 8-11 overall.

Latreka Jenkins led the Lady Tigers with 17 points, while sister Brittany Jenkins and Smith aided with 10 points apiece. Martin led the Gators with 12 points while teammate Brown had eight.

The Lady Tigers play host to Robertsdale Lady Golden Bears Friday night at 6 pm.

Satsuma 41

The BCHS Tigers dominated another foe Friday night as they defeated Satsuma Gators 64-41.

Baldwin County was up 13-10 with 2:18 remaining in the first quarter when Satsuma's John Baxter tied the game with a three point jump shot. The Tigers were then able to pull away with 1:31 left in the quarter when Charleston Gandy grabbed the offensive rebound and the basket to give the Tigers the 15-13 lead, Michael Stanley then added another point as he went 1-2 from the foul line with 17.9 seconds left to give the Tigers the 16-13 edge going into the second quarter.

Down by five in the middle of the second quarter, Satsuma takes a 5-0 run to tie the game 23-23. In the final three minutes of the second quarter, the Tigers pulled away with a 8-0 for the 33-25 score going into half time.

Baldwin County kept the momentum up in the third quarter only allowing the Gators to get as close as seven points behind. BCHS sealed the deal in the fourth when they held Satsuma to only six points to give the Tigers with 64-41 victory.

Baldwin County was led by Stanley with 14 points while Gandy had 12. Aaron Williams came out strong with 11 points and Ruben Butler put up 10 points for the victory. Baxter had 17 points for Satsuma and  Donald Bush had 13 points.

BCHS Coach Lorenzo Hunter said after the game, " I wasn't pleased with how the team performed tonight. We did play hard at times but we did not play smart, but all together we pulled things together to come up with another victory."

The Tigers are now 5-0 in AHSAA 6A Area 4 and 18-1 overall. Baldwin County will host Robertsdale Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
