BAY MINETTE, Ala. — “Unbelievable” was the first word out of BCHS baseball coach Peter Bezeredi's mouth after his Tigers swept the Alma Bryant Hurricanes 3-2, 2-0 to advance to the AHSAA 6A state baseball championship finals.

Jansen Boeschen started on the mound for the first game. In the first inning he gave up one hit but struck out two batters and left two runners on base. Jordan Ebert hit a double and was able to score on an error to give the Tigers their first run of the game.

BCHS loaded the bases load and no outs in the bottom of the second but could not capitalize, leaving three runners on base. In the top of the fourth, Bryant took the lead with a two-run home run over the left center fence from Aaron Haynes. A single from the Tigers’ Billy Johnstone set up the tying run and a sacrifice hit from Chris Andreoli brought in Johnstone to tie the game at 2.

Baldwin County’s defense and pitching from Boeschen was able to hold the Canes back. In the bottom of the seventh with two outs the Tigers loaded the bases to set up the game winning hit by Kristian Johnson to give the Tigers the 3-2 win.

Game Two was all about the pitching and defense. In the first inning Ebert hit a triple to bring in Andreoli, then a sacrifice out from Joe Devan allowed Ebert to score and a run from Boeschen gave the Tigers the early 3-0 lead. Jon Austin Harville saw 26 batters the entire game and struck out nine batters and walked three and gave up one hit to advance the Tigers to the finals in Montgomery.

In the final inning you could feel the excitement from the players, coaches and stands. When Harville struck out the last batter the players erupted in celebration.

“It’s unbelievable,” Bezeredi said. “I am proud of the players, staff and community.”

The Tigers will face Huntsville, who beat Grissom in three games 4-2,2-5,13-1 to advance.

The first game will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Paterson Field in Montgomery with games 2 and 3 to be played Friday at Riverwalk Stadium at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
