BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Baldwin County High School coach Bobby Moore tried to run away from it, but he couldn’t avoid his first Gatorade shower of the season with the Tigers’ 20-0 win on senior night over Escambia County.

“It’s big,” Moore said of the significance of the game for his players. “I’m proud of them and happy for them.”

The Tigers’ defense stepped up big in the win, Moore said, especially on a goal-line stand from the 1-yard line with 8:46 left in the fourth quarter.

“The defense did a great job,” he said. “That’s what you look for.”

The BCHS offense was buoyed by the play of senior quarterback Nathan Jones and running back Andre Cox. Jones threw for 208 yards on 15-of-19 passing. He threw for one score and rushed for another. Cox ran for 102 yards on 18 carries and added one score.

The Tigers stuffed Blue Devils’ runner TyJustin Brown for no gain, before sacking quarterback Chris Johnson twice for a turnover on downs.

A fumbled snap on a punt in the first quarter set up the Tiger offense on the 13-yard line. Cox cashed in on the ensuing play with a touchdown dash with 2:48 left in the first quarter. The Destin Harris kick missed and BCHS took a 6-0 lead.

The Tiger defense forced a three-and-out and the offense took over at the Blue-Devil 44-yard line. The Tigers made quick work of the possession, scoring on a 10-yard pass from Jones to Keelen Hooks that capped a five-play drive that took 1:09 off the clock.

Jones connected with Hooks for the two-point conversion for a 14-0 lead with 11:12 left in the second.

Tigers’ junior defensive back Andre Davis got his first of two interceptions on the night to stop the Blue Devils’ ensuing drive at the BCHS 8-yard line with 6:08 left in the first half.

BCHS scored the final points of the game on a sneak by Jones from the 1-yard line. The score capped a seven-play drive that included a 30-yard pass to Devonte Preston and a 17-yard pass to Questrus Barnes. The Harris kicked missed and the Tigers took a 20-0 lead with 6:38 left in the game.
