BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Going into the last game of pool action during the 2011 BayBears Classic both Spanish Fort High School and Baldwin County High School remained unbeaten. After the dust settled in the final game only BCHS was the sole undefeated team at the host site on their home field.
The teams were scoreless until Auburn commitment, Jordan Ebert hit a solo home run over the right field fence giving the Tigers the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Following Ebert's homerun, Jacob Swearingen hit a short single. Joseph Devan then came in and hit a double to bring in Swearingen to give the Tigers the 2-0 advantage.
The bottom of the fourth started out with Chris Andreoli reaching third on a three-base error. He was batted in by a single from Kristian Johnson to bring the score to 3-0. The fifth inning was much the same as the fourth when Ebert double and was batted in by Devan to give the Tigers the 4-0 go ahead.
Spanish Fort had a rally in the top of the seventh starting with Jack Walker reaching base on an error and then Daniel Rose walked. Troy Brown then shot one over the left field fence for the three run homerun. Baldwin County's defense was too much to allow the Toros to score another run leaving BCHS undefeated in the tournament with a score 4-3.
The Tigers will play Fairhope at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile. The winner will face the winner of Robertsdale-Alma Bryant for the BayBears Classic title at 7 p.m. Saturday.
On Tuesday, the Tigers beat Foley 11-1. Jordan Ebert had two hits, a grand slam and five RBI in the win. J.A. Harville struck out four hitters to get the win for BCHS.
Foley’s Jamin Graham had a home run.
On Monday in the opening round, BCHS topped Mary G. Montgomery 8-7. Ebert had a home run and four RBI, while Joe Devan had three hits and an RBI for the Tigers.
Tucker Miller got the win in relief for BCHS.
