BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County High School Lady Tigers closed out their season in dramatic fashion against the Lady Trojans of Daphne with a 63-61 victory in overtime.
The opening of the game was a little confusing for everyone with a glitch in Baldwin County High School’s scoreboard, so the school and officials decided to keep score on a white erase board and the officials kept their own clock.
The first quarter ended with Daphne ahead 8-7 with Amber Yelding and Sierra Patterson both leading Daphne with four points each. Trailing 9-7 early in the second quarter BCHS came alive with a 12-2 run led by CoCo Knight with six points to give the Tigers the 19-11 lead. Baldwin County kept the lead until 4:50 in the fourth quarter when Yelding hit a three-point jump shot to tie the game at 47. With the score in favor of the Tigers late in the game 55-53, Yelding was fouled and hit both of her free throws to tie the game at 55 and sent the game into overtime. The Lady Trojans jumped out early in the overtime period with a two point basket by Kristen Henton but the celebration would be short lived when Latreka Jenkins scored two points of her own to tie the score at 57. Patterson answered back for the Trojans but the combination of Jenkins and Knight hit six for six from the free throw line to give the Tigers the 63-59 lead with 23 seconds left on the clock. Cherilyn Ramsey scored a two point lay-up with 10 seconds left to bring the game to the final 63-61.
Coco Knight led the Lady Tigers with 26 points while teammate LaTreka Jenkins aided with 22 points. Yelding led the game for the Daphne Trojans with 31 points while Amanda Patton had 14 points.
