Beachside Interiors in Gulf Shores damaged in fire

GULF SHORES, AL – Multiple trucks and fire personnel were called to the scene of a furniture store in Gulf Shores on Saturday, June 4.

According to Deputy Chief Keith Martin, the Beachside Interiors on Alabama 59 across from Target was where the fire was located. Smoke could be seen from as far away as Foley.

Martin said when firefighters arrived they immediately began laying lines and making contact with store officials to make sure no one was in the building. Once sure no one was left inside, Martin said, crews began working on suppression and keeping it from spreading to other buildings.

"At one point the entire building was fully involved," Martin said. "Our first priority, after making sure no one was inside, was keeping it from spreading to the building south of the location and then other buildings."

At 1:45 Martin said the fire was under control and crews would stay on hand until it was completely out.

Almost every truck in the city was on the scene and off-duty personnel were called in to man the stations while the on-duty crews battled the blaze. Neighboring crews were sent from Hunter's Landing, Oyster Bay, Fort Morgan and crews from Orange Beach and Foley were on standby to help out in the city should other calls come up and to provide backup.

The call first came in at 11:59, Martin said. Alabama 59 both directions was closed with northbound traffic routed to Williams Street and southbound traffic being rerouted to Beckham Street.

From the scene it was reported employees had to flee the building and the building will be a total loss.
