William Riley “Two Dollar Bill” Bean II, 79, a native of Atlanta, and resident of Elberta, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008.
He was recognized nationally in the printing industry for his innovative contributions. He owned large companies in Atlanta, Cummings, Ga., and Birmingham. Later in life he built and ran the Orange Beach Golf Center.During his life he enjoyed traveling on his boats throughout the Caribbean and West Indies and Bahamas; up the East Coast of the U.S. and many of the nation's streams and rivers.
Survivors include his wife, Sterling Bean of Elberta, four daughters, Beverly Bean (Dave) Bertkau of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Patricia (Neal) Schachtel of St. Petersburg, Fla., Melinda “MiMi” Bean of Tamarindo, Costa Rica, and Johannah Peck (Dr. Gregory Ross) Siragusa of Wakesha, Wis.; two sons, Robert Harris (Danna) Bean of Spanish Fort and William S. (Susie) Peck of Elberta; and eight grandchildren, Claire Landiss, of Oxford, England, Colby Landiss of York, Pa., Allison, Ansley and Evan Bean, Max and Kit Siragusa, and Demmie Peck.
A memorial service was held Monday, April 14 at The Episcopal Church of the Advent in Lillian with the Rev. Martha Kreamer officiating. Burial will take place at a private family service at a later date.
