The City of Foley and the Revitalization & Beautification Advisory Board announced the winners of the 2009 Beautification Awards on May 18.

The Beautification Awards promote and enhance the image of Foley and recognize businesses that make outstanding contributions by maintaing their exteriors in a positive way.

Beautification Awards were given to Fmc Foley Dialysis, Holiday Inn Express and Magnolia Court Restaurant.

Carolyne Hollis, chair of the Revitalization & Beautification Advisory Board, also handed out special awards to two individuals. Bill Goodwin, a horticulturist and consultant with the City of Foley, was the recipient of the “Golden Rose Volunteer Award” for his work with the city’s Antique Rose Trail.

The Rose Trail, which runs north and south from the gazebo at Heritage Park, contains hundreds of rose bushes and dozens of varieties of roses thanks in no small part to Goodwin’s vision and efforts.

Robert Hellmich was the recipient of the “Tree Steward Award.” Hollis recognized the success of Hellmich’s “Century Tree” program which has been in effect in the city for a number of years.

“The board hates to see you leave,” Hollis told Hellmich during the awards ceremony.

He is leaving the Advisory Board after serving on it for years.
