Biblical Food for the Body And Food for the Soul

Spiritual food is essential for all of us as well as physical food.  Almost all books in the bible contain references to foods. Did you know that you could create a gourmet meal using foods from the Bible?  And, they are healthy foods, nutritionally good for you too!

The original version of this recipe for Fish Pudding came from the cookbook, “Cook Talk.”  What an unusual name this is but it truly is quite a tasty treat, just call it baked fish and you’ll enjoy it.

Fish Pudding - Ingredients

  • 3 pounds red snapper (or fish of your choice)
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup cracker crumbs (or bread crumbs)
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon onion, grated
  • Juice of one lemon
  • ¼ cup sherry (cooking wine)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter 9x12 inch pan.
  2. Bake fish for 20 minutes with a little salt and pepper, until fish flakes from bone. Remove bones and put fish into large bowl.  Add eggs and mix well.  Add milk and one half of the butter, one half of the cracker/bread crumbs, parsley, onion, lemon juice, salt, pepper and sherry.  Mix well.  Pour into buttered baking dish. If mixture appears to be dry, add a little more milk.  Put this baking dish in a pan of hot water, ¾ up the side of this dish, and bake for 50 minutes

Serve with tartar sauce.

The recipe has ingredients which are listed in the bible.  Scripture references are listed here for you to research.  John 21: 11-13; Luke 11:12; Judges 5:25; Isaiah 7:22; Acts 2:46; Numbers 11:5; Leviticus 26:4; Job 6:6; Ezra 6:9

Fish is packed with protein, vitamins, and nutrients.  The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least two times per week as part of a healthy diet.  Fish is listed in at least 31 verses in the Bible.

Our thought for today is:  Be Fishers of Men.... You catch 'em, He'll Clean 'em.

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
