There are a lot of words to describe life here in Baldwin County, but boring is not one of them.
While spring and summer are full of events for people visiting the area, fall and winter are all about the locals.
This past weekend, the social calendar was full of great events across the county.
The Baldwin County Fair in Robertsdale, Daphne’s Jubilee Festival, the Delta Dash in Stockton, Polo at the Point in Point Clear and Uncorked at the Wharf in Orange Beach were just the start of another hectic festival season down here.
Just around our office in Foley, calendars are filling up with must-cover events that fill the evenings and weekends with fun for all.
In the coming weeks there is the Festival of Flavors in Foley, the Elberta Sausage Festival, the National Shrimp Festival — among countless other events — and before long Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Mardi Gras will be here.
Having moved to Baldwin County early last September, I arrived just in time to experience the Festival Season, as several co-workers call it.
I put a few thousand miles on my car traveling up and down Highway 59 to and from different events in those first months.
While my left arm got a driver’s tan and my right foot got tired a little tired, I had a great time getting to know the people and places who make Baldwin County the great place it is.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to photograph the Delta Dash, which easily met my favorite rule of photography — the messier the subject, the better the photos.
Moreso than being great photo opportunities, the events and festivals that fill the calendar down here are excellent chances to get out and experience everything the area has to offer.
In the spring, tourists and college kids had their fun in the sun, and the summer — in case you don’t remember — was hot, hot, hot.
But now that the sun sets earlier over Mobile Bay, locals have the run of the place.
What I’m saying is, get a nap while you can, because the fun has just begun.
