The Alabama Coastal BirdFest is showcasing the work of photographer Marlene Jay Cashen as the 2007 poster artist. Cashen, an avid birder and photographer, took many photos of birds and wildlife on the Gulf Coast prior to her move to Washington state last year.
More of her work can be viewed on the Web site for Weeks Bay Reserve Foundation at www.weeksbay.org.
“Marlene’s shot of a red-headed woodpecker is a striking photo that was perfect for our poster and brochure this year,” said Dr. John Borom, president of Mobile Bay Audubon, and one of the BirdFest organizers. “This is a bird that is common to our area, but also it is a bird that people get excited about seeing because of its size and color.”
The fourth annual Alabama Coastal BirdFest will be held Oct. 18-21.
The event includes nearly 20 guided birding tours and evening events with speakers and a free Bird & Conservation Expo.
Advance registration is required for the tours and dinners.
