DAPHNE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Training School Heritage Fest 91 Foundation is coordinating the sale of engraved brick pavers to be installed at Daphne’s Black Education Museum.
Each 4-by-8-inch brick costs $75. A package of three costs $200. An 8-by-8-inch brick costs $150. The money will go to Heritage Fest Foundation, which includes the museum as a part of the organization. All funds raised will be used for the daily upkeep of the museum, yearly scholarships and the foundation’s other charitable causes.
Anyone can apply to purchase a brick. Applications are available at the Black Education Museum located on the W.J. Carroll Intermediate School campus in Daphne. Call 251-626-9886 to receive more information or to apply for a brick paver on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“The foundation also plans to give out yearly scholarships and do other charitable things in community,” said Gartrell Agee, foundation president and director of the Black Education Museum.
In the past year the foundation increased its $1,000 scholarship to three students whose submitted essays best reflected the spirit of Baldwin County Training school, according to the museum’s website http://blogs.bcbe.org/bem.
The museum was erected in 1941 as the Baldwin County Training School. More information about the museum can be found at http://blogs.bcbe.org/bem.
