The Rev. Harold Blackburn, 93, a native of Citronelle, and a resident of Silverhill, died Saturday, July 10, 2010.

He worked 19 years for South Central Bell; pastored several Southern Baptist Churches in Alabama; then he became Director of Missions for 23 years serving Clark and Chambers Counties and Baldwin County for 13 years. He was an avid hunter and in retirement years enjoyed being a taxidermist.

In his own words from his hospital bed “I am resurrected in God, believing I could live to be 100; but I am not in charge, I’m just forgiven.” He died as he lived - A Christian with his loving family by his side singing “Because He Lives.”

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Harold Blackburn; and grandson, Zackery Lewis Davis.

Survivors include his childhood sweetheart and wife of 70 years, Miriam Lott Blackburn of Silverhill; two daughters, Carol Ann (Harold) Clendenin of Robertsdale and Deborah Kay (Floyd) Davis of Poplarville, Miss.; brother, Howard Wallace Blackburn of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren, Janie Lee (Breck) Finley, Dana (Brian) Sullivan, Ashley (Johnny) Reyes, Sandra (Bill) Sawyer, Scott (Charlotte) Odom and Dusty Davis; and great-grandchildren, Owen, Travis, Noah, Olivia and Naomi Finley, Charles Shinn, Joshua (Christina) Blackburn, Austin and Luke Sullivan, Kristen Blackburn, John, Amberly, Aimee and Allyson Reyes, Tom and Sarah Sawyer, Colby, Bailey and Blakely Odom.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13 at the Silverhill First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Patterson officiating. Graveside services followed at 4 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Citronelle.
