Helen Arita Hash Blackmon, 84, a resident of Bay Minette, died Tuesday, Sept. 1 2009 following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 31, 1925 in High Point, N.C., to Ella Rebecca Osborne and Allen Hash. She was a graduate of Troy State University and the University of South Alabama and taught history in Bay Minette for 25 years. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Bay Minette and a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Daniel Blackmon Jr.
Survivors include two children, Nancy Carol Blackmon (Jerry) Kramer of Rosinton and Bert Daniel (Mary Stewart) Blackmon III of Bay Minette; one grandson, Jonathan (Dawn Sowell) Kelly of Pine Grove; and two great-grandsons, Dillon Anderson and Zach Locklar.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4 from the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Dr. Henry Cox and Dr. Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Bay Minette Public Library for the purchase of history books, 205 W. Second St., Bay Minette, AL 36507.
