DAPHNE, Ala.—Lisa Blackmon was stunned when the announcement was made that she had been chosen as ‘Daphne Elementary Teacher of the Year’ for the 2008-2009 school year.
She has been teaching for 15 years, seven of which have been at Daphne Elementary.
“Teaching is in my blood,” said Blackmon, who serves as a school technology mentor and uses a Promethean board to engage her students as she teaches.
When asked what she likes most about teaching she said, “It thrills me when the “light bulb” comes on and a child’s face lights up because he or she now understands the concept of the objective being taught.”
“We have an incredible group of teachers at Daphne Elementary who all deserve to be named ‘Teacher of the Year,’” she said.
She and her husband Earl have four children and live in Spanish Fort.
