BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Department of Archives and History will host a local blacksmiths demonstration Saturday from 8 a.m. to  4:30 p.m. at Baldwin County Bicentennial Park on State Highway 225 2 miles south of Stockton.

Demonstrations will include the craftsmanship of 19th century tools, farm equipment and household implements used on farms and in homes in the 1800s.

Admission is free. The Baldwin County Commission approved at its regular meeting Tuesday to proceed with opening the park to the public during the weekends. Weekend park hours are Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

Visitors are asked to check in at the Bicentennial Park Welcome Center. The Welcome Center will provide guests with pamphlets and maps that describe the Davida Hastie Nature Trail, park exhibits and historic sites within Baldwin County.

Visitors to the Park will have the opportunity to walk along the Davida Hastie Nature Trail to view Baldwin County’s indigenous flora, fauna and wetlands. The wetland pavilion offers visitors an outdoor classroom to view and study the various species that inhabit the 367-acre park.

Visitors can also view the park’s various exhibits, including a 1910 country store, Indian lifestyles exhibit, 1800s trade house as well as the Veteran’s Memorial Park which commemorates the lives of the men and women who have served in  the military.

The park also offers two pavilions that visitors are welcome to use for picnic lunches or to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. No alcohol is allowed.
