BMFD burns dilapidated home

BAY MINETTE - A  cloud of smoke hovered over the Moran Street area  Monday, eminating from a burning home at 807 E. Ellis Street. The home was among a list of homes that have been identified by the City of Bay Minette as hazardous, nuisance or an eyesore. Oscar Waters, building and planning supervisor for the city, said the process to obtain the rights to demolish an abandoned home is lengthy and tedious, but said the city is doing all it can to remove or encourage improvements, where possible, of such homes. The fire department often uses such situations for training exercises.
