ORANGE BEACH, AL - Officials from Orange Beach Fire and Rescue said a boat ran ashore on Canal Road about 7:20 p.m. on April 11 and sent three people to area hospitals. One of the injured was on the bank and the other two were in the boat.
One of the injured was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. Two more were sent via ground transport, one to Pensacola and one to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley, according to Orange Beach Fire and Rescue Acting Battalion Chief Capt. Dray Resmondo.
Two males on the boat were injured and the injured person on the bank was a female. Officials investigating the crash believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
"We had a single boat that left the canal and ran up on the bank, hit a pine tree in the concrete curve, struck someone on the bank evidently fishing but we’re not sure," Resmondo said.
Resmondo couldn't comment on the extent of the injuries, but a person on the bank was hit by the vessel.
"That’s what I was told, she was fishing, but I know for a fact she was on the bank and she did get hit by the boat," Resmondo said.
Resmondo said two law enforcement agencies were on the scene and would investigate the accident.
"For some reason they left the water and came up on the bank," he said. "They are investigating it. Alabama Marine Police were on the scene, of course our local police department was on the scene.
"It had an outboard on it, a little cabin on the front of it. I would guess it was 26 to 28 foot. It was a pretty good sized boat to just have one motor on it."
