Bobbie Jean Hempfleng, 82, a native of Mobile and resident of Summerdale, died Friday, May 2, 2014.
Mr. Hempfleng was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Hempfleng; and son, Karl Hempfleng.
He is survived by his sons, Charles (Jerri) Hempfleng, Kenneth Hempfleng, Keith Hempfleng, Curt (Deloris) Hempfleng and Kevin (Monica) Hempfleng; brothers, C.C. (Dottie) Hempfleng and Jimmy (Ann) Hempfleng; sisters, Linda (Rick) Hoss and Virginia (Robert) Wiley; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Bob joined the United States Marine Corps in 1951, serving in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam, receiving the Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Citation Civic Actions 1st Class, and numerous others.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, he served several terms as commander of VFW Post 5660.
The family request that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Hempfleng’s name to VFW Post 5660, 950 Nichols Ave. Ext. Fairhope, AL 36532.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Robertsdale, with the visitation from 1 p.m. until time of service.
The interment will follow in Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.
