Bobby Joe Simpson, 76, a resident of Elberta, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012. Born in Tell City, Ind., Bob and Polly met while he was in the U.S. Army in Massachusetts and married in June 1958. They moved to and worked in Kalamazoo, Mich., until retiring to Elberta in 1993. Bob enjoyed fishing and woodworking and was active with the Wolf Bay Watershed Watch in many capacities. He offered volunteer work with Alabama PALS (People Against A Littered State) and received many commendations for his work with Adopt-A-Stream, Adopt-A-Mile and various other PALS endeavors. Bob retired from the military after 27 plus years with the Army and Army National Guard and thoroughly enjoyed living in beautiful Alabama. He was lovingly cared for in his last days by Community Hospice of Foley. He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Pauline “Polly” Simpson. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley, Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m. The family will receive an hour prior to the service.
