Bobby Neil Farris, 83, of Fairhope, died Jan. 13, 2015 at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette.

Bobby graduated from Alcorn County Agriculture High School and attended college for one year prior to enlisting in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. After an honorable discharge, he continued his education at the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of South Alabama.

Bobby’s first job in education was teaching history at Robertsdale High School and his great love for teaching kept him there from 1960 until retirement in 1987, by which time he had become principal.

Bobby loved art and was a self-taught artist whose great wish was to start an art program at Robertsdale High. He managed to begin the program by giving up his planning period to help a few talented young artists. The program today is highly successful.

After retirement, Bobby continued to enjoy art as well as many activities, including long bike rides.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 53 years, Fay; son, Roger; and beloved poodles, Marc and Luc; as well as a host of nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 at the C.F. Taylor Alternative School Auditorium in Robertsdale, previously known as Robertsdale High School.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Robertsdale High School Art Program, P.O. Box 69, Robertsdale, AL 36567.
