Louise Mullins Boddie, 89, a resident of Foley, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008.
She was born in Elmore County, one of 12 children born to Marion and Mamie Holley Mullins. She attended school in Flea Hop. She married John M. Boddie of Weoka in 1937, moved to Alexander City in 1938 and worked in Russell Mills along with her husband, John.
On August 23, 1938, daughter, Shirley was born. In 1941 they moved to Foley where her husband worked in the shipyard in Mobile. She worked part-time at different businesses for several years. In 1944 a son was born in the Foley hospital when it was over Wright's Drug Store. In 1945 they moved back to Weoka, where they lived for many years.
John worked for the Alabama National Guard for many years. Louise worked in the lunch room of Weoka School for several years. In 1966 they ran Weoka Grocery Store for six years.
John was killed in 1971. Louise moved back to Foley in 1972 and has been here ever since. She has attended First Baptist Church in Foley all these years and was very active, but maintained her membership at Antioch Baptist Church in Weoka. She was an active member in Chaqpter 142 of the Eastern Star. She always had a sweet and giving heart, doing for others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Boddie and a great-grandchild, Jason Jensen.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley (Wayne) Perdew of Foley; son, Jerry (Pat) Boddie of Weoka; three grandchildren, Jack Jensen, Roger Boddie and Leigh Carmen; great-grandchildren, Tara Wood, Jennifer Jensen, Amanda Jensen, Sara Jensen, Isabella Boddie and John Boddie; two brothers, George Mullins and M. J. Mullins; sister, Lottie Mae Smith.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24 at Antioch Baptist Church, Wetumpka (Weoka). Interment will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-1942.
