Bodenhamer Center burglarized Monday

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Members of the Bodenhamer Center were turned away at opening hours Monday due to a burglary that occurred inside the building.

According to Detective Sgt. Skip Callaway of the Gulf Shores Police Department, a Bodenhamer Center employee Monday found that six vending machines inside the building had been broken into.

Callaway said there was no evidence of forced entry, which has led the police department to believe the suspect or suspects stayed within the building at closing on Jan. 11, abstracted bill changers from the machines and broke a large mirror in the men’s restroom.

Callaway said the vending company in charge of the machines will have to count the number of sodas and money abstracted from the machine before they can determine how much cash was stolen.

Callaway said, however, the total cost of damage to the machine was $500 and $250 for the broken mirror.

Callaway said there are no leads on who committed the crime at this time, but if found the suspect or suspects would be facing burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief in the third degree and theft of property in the second or third degree.
