Book sale a boon for area’s readers

Book lovers rejoice! The Bay Minette Public Library is having a week-long book sale that will have you singing a happy tune and loading up on books to curl up with during these days of unpredictable winter weather. The book sale will be held in our Program Room during library hours starting Monday, Jan. 13 and ending Friday, Jan. 17. Books will be 25 cents each!

The library has an on-going book sale in the Program Room which is currently overflowing with gently used books and a few audio books on cd. Books are added on a regular basis and Library Clerk Christina Salter straightens the room and keeps the books in good order making it easier for patrons to browse.

The books are in alphabetical order by author but by letter only. For example, all the authors whose last name starts with an “A” are in with all the other “A” authors. That’s as far as the order goes. Unfortunately, we don’t have the time or manpower to have it more organized.

The room is now home to several hundred books that were donated or weeded. Let me explain a little about weeding. It is one of my favorite things to do, which either makes me incredibly thorough or just plain crazy. It gives me the opportunity to get out in the stacks and amongst the patrons as well as keeping me knowledgeable about where certain books are located. Even though it is a time consuming task, there is something soothing about it. I pull books that have not circulated well or are in bad shape in order to make room for new titles. This is a necessary task since there is only so much room in a library.

Over the next few weeks I will be weeding our library collection and need to make room in our book sale room, hence the upcoming Book Sale. The great thing is that the Book Sale Room is available to house the books until they find another home on your book shelves or bedside table. So stop in and pick up a few books that you may have on your reading list or find an undiscovered title or author.

Happy Reading!
