FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Page & Palette, 32 S. Section St. in Fairhope, will host author Tess Vincent and illustrator Bettylou Pierce on Saturday, from 2-4 p.m.

They will sign their book “So…What Color Am I?” at the downtown bookstore.

The book centers on a little boy of mixed race, who wonders what color he is.

He is not white like his mother, yet he is not black like his father. Some say he is black and white, but when he looks at other black-and-white creatures, like the zebra and dalmatian dogs, he finds that he is not like them at all.

The boy thinks about his friends and their colors, one of whom is an Asian with yellow skin, while the other is an Indian with red skin.

He also has a bi-racial friend, a Latino, who is like him but does not really look like him.

As he observes the world around him, he finds that animals and plants have different colors.

In this beautiful children’s book, readers will delight in the answer that his mother provides, that it doesn’t matter what color he is on the outside, what’s important is what color he is inside. And deep down inside, all races have the same color.

“So…What Color Am I?” is a heartwarming story where love is used to answer so great a personal question of an innocent child.

Its vivid illustrations will delight young children and parents, especially those with mixed-race children, and they will appreciate the simple, yet effective moral-filled story line.

The author and illustrator will exclusively sign all books purchased from Page & Palette.
