Milton “Mitt” Kirkpatrick Boyd, 88, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in Mobile.
He was a longtime resident of Mobile and Baldwin County; an avid golfer, sports-fan and outdoorsman.
He established an annual golf tournament to benefit the Mobile and Baldwin area Easter Seals Association which raised over $600,000 for disabled children; he coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball; served as a high school football referee for years; volunteered with Meals on Wheels; was a deacon at Eastern Shore Baptist Church in Daphne and later attended the First Baptist Church in Bay Minette; also organized and participated in various golf tournaments and tours for senior citizens in and around Baldwin and Mobile counties.
He fought for his country in World War II, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, Signal Corps and served from 1941 through 1946.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Sara Mott Boyd; three daughters, Salle Boyd (Frank) Rentz of Birmingham, Rebecca Boyd (Edward Dale) Hayes of Loxley; and Wendy Boyd (Richard) Cox of Stockton; a son, Milton Kirkpatrick (Denise) Boyd Jr. of Waynesboro, Va.; 10 grandchildren; Abner Riley Powell IV, Salle Sikes Wood, Jennifer Lee Graham, Robert Patrick Graham, John Richard Cox, David Boyd Cox, Katie Renee Boyd, Benjamin Scott Boyd, Milton K. Boyd III and Veronica Leigh Boyd; and three great-grandchildren, Sara Leighanna Wood, Isabelle Susan Powell and Mary McCollough Powell.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Good Will/Easter Seals, 2448 Gordon Smith Drive, Mobile, AL 36617.
Active pallbearers were, Riley Powell, Richard Cox, John Cox, Frank Rentz, Ed Hayes, David Cox and Hal Wood.
