FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The Rotary Boys and Girls Club of Fairhope held its annual Christmas Party Dec. 20 at the club facility, located at 19128 Young St.

Club Unit Director Trina Hankins said about 77 club members attended.

It was an evening of song, presentations, gifts and refreshments.

A new element this year was the “Bikes for Tikes” program, sponsored by Baldwin County Trailblazers and Wal-Mart of Fairhope.

New bicycles were presented to 60 club members between the ages of 6 and 12.

“All of them completed a bike safety course furnished by the Trailblazers,” Hankins said.

In addition to the bicycles, the recipients also received a certificate from Mike McPhersons, Baldwin Trailblazers executive director, verifying their completion of the course, she said.

The bicycles were paid for by the Trailblazers, Rotary Clubs of Fairhope and Point Clear and Wal-Mart of Fairhope.

Hankins said the teen members attending the party received Christmas gift bags.

“Everyone went home with a gift,” she said.

Hankins added that McDonald’s furnished each student with a certificate for one free meal.

Club members assisted with the program. The club girls chorus sang two songs for those present. Hilary Williams gave the welcome, Heather Mitchell the invocation and Skylar Miller, the blessing.

Other special guests attending included Executive Director Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama Mary Zoghby, Mayor Tim Kant and City Councilman Mike Ford.

In addition to Hankins, the Rotary Boys and Girls Club is staffed by: Sue Bonner, membership clerk; Tiffany Irby, education director; Charles Durgin, gym assistant; and Billy Murphy, P.E. director.

The club will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1.
