DAPHNE, Ala. — Bay Rivers Art Guild of Daphne held a reception on Sunday to welcome members and the public to The George Albert Nicholson Center, which will eventually become BRAG’s new home.
The Doors of Daphne was the featured exhibit.
Proceeds from sale of posters and artwork will go toward the nonprofit organization’s $1.2 million renovation and relocation project.
Information on BRAG’s outreach program, where artists display their work for purchase at various venues within the city, as well as summer art camp were also available.
Architectural plans for the new facility by William Caswell were also on display.
Marion McAleer, president of BRAG, is looking forward to two floors to house exhibitions, classes, lectures, workshops and hopefully a pottery studio in the 8,000-square-foot building that was once used as a recreation center.
Last year a $45,000 grant from The Alabama State Council of the Arts was given for architectural plans.
The city of Daphne has agreed to match that amount.
In addition, BRAG has applied for a $100,000 construction grant.
BRAG is currently located at 1704 Sixth St., behind Daphne City Hall.
