BRAG to hold 11th Annual Juried Art Show

DAPHNE, Ala. — Coming off a decade of success, Bay Rivers Art Guild of Daphne will hold its 11th Annual Juried Art Show. All artists 18 years and older are invited to submit their work for judging and awards.

This year BRAG will award $1,000 for best of show, $500 for  both The Robert Sister’s Memorial and The BRAG Founder’s Award.

Five merit awards of $100 each will also be given.

This year’s judge will be Anne Cockerill of Austell, Ga., who has been commissioned by that state to paint four life-size portraits at the legislative chamber of the old capital building in Milledgeville.

She is currently a guest artist teaching “Best Tricks: Past to Present — From Old Master Glazing to Digital Shortcuts” at BRAG on Jan. 9 and 10.

With a love of painting since she was age 4, Cockerill graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in art from LaGrange College in Georgia.

Among her many accomplishments are her paintings that were chosen for inclusion in the Georgia Watercolor Society Exhibition, Spirit of America Exhibition in Marietta and the Tallahassee Watercolor Society Exhibition.

Her painting "Piedmont Park” was chosen for the Atlanta Dogwood Festival poster.

In 1975, Ann and her husband, Bill, opened up the  Cockerill Gallery in Austell, Ga. where they feature their own work as well as other local artisans.

Cockerill will announce the winners at BRAG’s Block Party  on Jan. 17, from 5:30-7 p.m.

“I am looking forward to judging the art at BRAG. I am always inspired by the creative efforts of other artists and love to analyze art — getting into the artist’s head to see what they see and experience; what they experienced in painting the work.”

All entries will remain in the  BRAG gallery until March 2, and are available for purchase.

The judging and Block Party are open to the public; light refreshments will be served.

BRAG is located at 1704 Sixth St. in Daphne. For more information, call (251) 621-0659, or visit www.bragart.org.
