DAPHNE, Ala.—Bay Rivers Art Guild hosted its “Doors of Daphne” poster presentation and reception Saturday to display local artists’ talents and to raise funds for an anticipated move to the Nicholson Center.
“It was fabulous,” office manager Lynn Rios said. “We had more people come out for this event than the juried show.” BRAG held its annual juried show in January, where all of the painted artwork on display Saturday was judged.
Guild representatives said the poster presentation attracted almost 200 attendees, who were treated to a gourmet appetizer spread and a selection of wines and soft drinks.
Guests purchased painted renditions of their front doors, recreated by local artists who used photos of the doors as guides.
“It was nonstop,” Rios said. “People just kept coming in.”`
BRAG awaits the city of Daphne and the guild to come to an agreement on a suitable lease for the Nicholson Center, located on Captain O’Neal Drive. The city owns the property and reportedly is deciding how best to properly lease the building to BRAG, ensuring all parties involved are satisfied.
Door art and posters will be available for sale through April 18 at the guild galleries.
Artwork may also be purchased from 4 to 6 p.m. March 29 at the “Neighborhood Celebration” at the Nicholson Center.
Call BRAG at 621-0659 if you have a door you would like rendered in watercolor, pastel, acrylic or oil.
