DAPHNE, Ala. — Bay Rivers Art Guild will have its 10th Annual Juried Art Show awards ceremony and block party on from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 12.
The event is free to the public and includes food, adult beverages, art viewing and an excellent opportunity to buy art work, Valley O’Neal, BRAG president, said.
This year there’s a People’s Choice Award so that the public can vote on their favorite piece. This is in addition to the Best of Show, memorial and merit awards that pay the artists $100 to $1,000.
“We offer more prize money than any show from Pensacola, Fla., to Biloxi, Miss.,” O’Neal said.
Artists could submit their works until 2 p.m. Saturday. The judge will look at all submissions and decide on those accepted for the show, O’Neal said.
This year’s judge, Nina Fritz, of Pensacola, is an accomplished artist who was commissioned by Paramount Pictures in 1997 to create paintings for the Jim Carrey flick “The Truman Show,” according to Fritz’s Web site.
“We expect to receive submissions from students at Spring Hill College and from Pensacola, Fla. and the Mississippi Coast,” O’Neal said. “It should be a great show this year.”
Last year, BRAG received 190 entries; 110 were accepted, O’Neal said.
