ROBERTSDALE, Alabama – A pair of Robertsdale Golden Bears signed letters of intent on Wednesday on National Signing Day for prospective college football players.
Offensive lineman Brandon Bridgers signed with Louisiana-Monroe, while quarterback Alphonso Stewart signed to play for UT-Chattanooga.
“When I first visited there I felt completely at home,” Bridgers, a 6-foot-6, 305-pound tackle said. “The coaches made me feel like family and I knew that I wanted to go there.”
Stewart (6-2, 185-pounds) played quarterback as a senior for the Golden Bears but will play wide receiver for Chattanooga. Stewart originally committed to Jacksonville State before deciding to sign with Chattanooga.
“I had a great connection as soon as I got to Chattanooga,” Stewart said. “They treated me like family. It is all about the connection you have with coaches and players, and I felt like I had the best connection with Chattanooga.”
Stewart said he is confident he will contribute as a freshman.
“I expect to be able to play as a freshman,” he said. “If I work hard anything is possible. I expect to start by the end of the season.”
Robertsdale head coach Brian Campbell said he was proud to see Stewart and Bridgers move on to the next level.
“Both of these guys are team players,” Campbell said. “They would do anything for the team. They are unselfish. They go 100% during practice and 100% at game time. You can’t ask for anything else from them. They have great character and I know they will do great things.”
