BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office reports it has arrested a Baldwin County Sheriff’s Corrections officer on a first-degree sodomy charge.

According to their news release, on Tuesday, April 5, the Baldwin Count Sheriff’s Office received information from a third-party inmate indicating improper sexual contact had taken place between a corrections officer and another inmate at the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette. The sheriff’s office opened a criminal and internal investigation. 

An attempt to interview the inmate failed to reveal the identity of the corrections officer. Investigators were able to figure out that Corrections officer Jimmy Katrell Craft, 23, of Atmore, Ala., could possibly be involved. On Wednesday, April 6, the Sheriff's office reports Craft was placed on administrative leave with pay.

The following day, investigators received a written complaint outlining the sexual contact between the inmate and Craft. Investigators asked to speak with the victim with his attorneys present.

Around 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 8, investigators met with the inmate and his attorneys at the Corrections Center where a formal interview was conducted.According to the news release, the inmate said around Feb. 12, he was taken from his cell by Craft and told to have sex.

On April 11, Craft was interviewed by investigators. The news release stated Craft admitted to sodomizing the inmate victim at that time. Craft was subsequently arrested and charged with sodomy in the first degree. Craft was transported to the Corrections Center.  Bond was set at $25,000. Craft is not currently listed as an inmate. According to the press release, he has also been terminated from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
