James C. Brown Jr., born Nov. 4, 1916, a native of Brinkley, Ark., and a resident of Fairhope, died June 2, 2009, at a local hospital after a brief illness.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairhope and a former member of Dauphin Way Baptist in Mobile for many years.

His career in Mobile, which began in 1946, was centered in the grocery and produce business, owning his own company, Gulf City Produce. He was part of the Greatest Generation, having served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star during combat in the European Theatre of Operations.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dale Brown.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Brown (David) Younce of Fairhope; sister, Maxine Clement of Dickson, Tenn.; granddaughter, Amy Younce (Rick) Hempstead of Huntsville; grandson, Andy Younce of Mobile; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Thursday, June 4 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral home in Daphne. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 5 at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the building fund at First Baptist Church of Fairhope.
