Robert Gardner Brown, 76, a native of Elizabeth, N.J., and a longtime resident of Daphne, died Monday, March 31, 2008.
He came to Mobile in 1968 as part of his 32-year career with Shell Chemical Company. he was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Mobile from 1968 until 1989.
Upon his retirement, he moved to Daphne. He became a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where he served as senior warden and sang with the choir.
He was active in teh Mobile and Baldwin County Mental Health Associations and was honored as the MMHA Volunteer of the Year in 2002. Most recently he served as vice president of the Baldwin County Mental health Center’s Board of Directors.
He enjoyed Barbershop harmony singing as a member of teh local SPEBSQSA Chapters. He was an avid boater and fisherman, as well as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Anne Brown; three sons, Bobby Brown of Daphne, Scott (Janet) Brown of Daphne and David (Machelle) Brown of Orange Beach; two sisters, Dorothy Salt and Marion Neff, both of Stuart, Fla.; five grandchildren, Audrey Brown of Orange Beach, Daniel Brown, Matthew Brown, Nolen Brown and Carianne Brown, all of Daphne; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at Pine Rest Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Daphne. Private graveside services and interment will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Baldwin County Mental Health Center, 372 S. Greeno Road, Fairhope, AL 36532.
