Brown Bag by the Bay returns to May Day

DAPHNE, Ala. — The ‘Brown Bag by the Bay’ music festival meets every Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in September and October at May Day Park.

The festival began in Mobile 24 years ago and will return for its second year in Daphne. ‘Brown Bag’ was started by Catt Sirten, a deejay at WHIL-91.3 FM who hosts its Radio Avalon and Sunday Jazz Brunch. Also planning to perform are fusion, new age and bluegrass musicians.

“About 100 people attended each Thursday this spring,” Megan Matrone, Daphne’s recreation programs coordinator, said. “The same amount is expected this season,” Sirten said.

Besides the city, weekly sponsors include: Baldwin Eye Clinic, Page and Talent, and Goodyear of Daphne.

‘Brown Bag’ — an offical Daphne Recreation Department event — is open to the public.

Cost is free, but guests are expected to provide their own food and refreshments.
