DAPHNE, Ala. — The city of Daphne and its Recreation Board are sponsoring the “Brown Bag by the Bay” event each Thursday in September and October.

Each Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a free concert will take place on the front lawn at the city hall complex. Concerts are open to the public.

This is the second year the city is having the weekly concerts. Last year they were held at May Day Park, but because of construction, they have temporarily moved.

“As soon as May Day Park is completed, hopefully we will move it back there where it was last year,” said David McElroy, Parks and Recreation director.

Next Thursday, Bay City Brass will perform. Bust performs Sept. 16; Gene Murrell performs Sept. 23; Jimmy Robinson performs Sept. 30; Jim Armstrong performs Oct. 7; Faulkner State Sun Chief Jazz Band performs Oct. 14; Lisa Mills performs Oct. 21; and Excelsior Band performs the final week on Oct 28.

“We average around 100 people,” said McElroy. “With a number of restaurants in the immediate area, it’s a good location.”

92.1 FM ZEW also sponsors the weekly concert event.

The radio station also presents a weekly Brown Bag concert series in Mobile and Fairhope.
