Charles Jere Bruce, 67, a native of Jacksonville and a resident of Fairhope, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 at the William F. Green Veteran's Home in Bay Minette.

He was a 1964 graduate of Auburn University, a proud leader of the Boy Scouts,  a Shriner in the Morrocan Temple in Jacksonville, Fla., and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Daphne, retiring from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1966.

He served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years including two tours of duty in Vietnam with the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion #62 (SEA-BEES), out of Gulf Port, Miss. He received the Bronze Star while serving during the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Naval Reserves as a lieutenant commander in 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Oliver Bruce of Fairhope; son John Robert  “J.B.” Bruce of Fairhope; daughter, Meagan Anne (Michael) Brady of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and grandson, Toby Alexander Brady.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Daphne.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the church's building fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
