Bruce A. Hummel of Foley passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at his home in Foley, Alabama.
Bruce was born in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania on April 18, 1932 to the late Clyde and Emma Strouphauer Hummel.
Bruce served his country for 21 years. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He served with the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea in 1950-51 as a rifleman. He served in Vietnam with 7th AF as an intelligence analyst.
His awards include Bronze Star W/V Device and two Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Inf. Badge, Korean Service Medal w/4 Stars,UN Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Star, National Defense Medal with one Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, U.S. Presidential and Korean Presidential Unit Citations, plus other awards. His assignments included Korea, Indian Town Gap, Pennsylvania, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Baumholder, Germany, Hamscom Field, Massachusetts, Toul Rosieres, France, Fuchu AS, Japan, Far East/United Nations Honor Guard, Tokyo, Japan, Iwo Jima, Maxwell AFB, Alabama, Parks AFB, California.
Bruce loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter. He loved working in his yard and the flowers he grew were his delight.
Bruce was a Mason, a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 5658, Elberta, Alabama and the American Legion Post 99, Foley, Alabama.
He attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Foley, Alabama.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his first wife, Dorisse Freeman Hummel; a daughter, Debra Dorisse Taylor; and a brother, Eddie Lee Hummel; as well as his beloved springer spaniel, Ginger.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Laura Lawanda Hummel; daughters, Cynthia (Billy) Carter of Roanoke, Virginia and Kimberly Ball of Chula Vista, California; an adopted daughter, Cheryl (Ed) Smith of Erie, Pennsylvania. He is survived by brothers, Robert (Dawn) Hummel of Lebanon, Pennsylvania and John (Linda) Hummel of Montgomery, Alabama. He is also survived by Kimberly Thomas of California and Ashlee Thomas of New York; two granddaughters he and Dorisse raised. Also surviving Bruce are his wife's children, Dawn (Rusty) Aldridge, Richard (Tammy) Stevens and Jeff Stevens. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren surviving and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Most devoted survivor is JoJo, his rat terrier, constant companion and foot warmer.
Funeral services are pending to be held at Indian Town Gap Military Cemetery, Anneville, Pennsylvania.
