Richard Charles Brunell, 90, a native of Connecticut, and a resident of Daphne, since 1949, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at his residence.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Chase Brunell, his son Paul and his daughter Marilyn.

He was a veteran in the U.S. Army, received the Bronze Star after becoming a prisoner of war in World War II.

He then entered the administrative field and worked for Eastern Airlines and also owned Brunell Travel in Mobile.

He is a past Commodore of the Fairhope Yacht club, as well as a devoted member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Eleanor Brunell of Daphne; two sons, Richard Brunell Jr. of Huntsville and Edward Brunell of Daphne; three daughters, Carolyn Cunningham of San Clemente, Calif., Ann Thomas of Raleigh, N.C. and Jeanne Bates of Hazel Green; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 29 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne. Graveside services and interment will follow at Belforest Catholic Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
