FOLEY, Alabama — Buckhorn scored seven runs in the final three innings to capture a 7-6 win over Class 5A No. 3 Spanish Fort on Monday in the first day of the Gulf Coast Classic II tournament.
Blake Talley went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a walk, and hit a three-RBI double that put Buckhorn up 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth. Kyle Wright and Adam Schrimsher added RBIs in the win.
Spanish Fort scored six runs in the first two innings and held a 6-0 lead until the fourth. Jesse McCord had an RBI double in the first and a two-run double in the second. Joel Poe, Myles York and Will Luft had RBIs in the second inning for the Toros.
Bentley King started for Buckhorn and gave up six runs on nine hits with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. Andrew Daigle struck out two and gave up three hits and four runs in 5 1/3 for Spanish Fort.
Both teams will be back in action in the tournament on Tuesday, as Buckhorn will play Alexandria at 11 a.m. in Loxley and Spanish Fort will face G.W Long at 9 a.m. at Robertsdale High School.
