FOLEY, Ala. — If the owner of the Curl and Style beauty shop considers imitation the sincerest form of flattery, she might change her mind after a 42-year-old Foley man was arrested Wednesday night in her shop dressed like her, right down to the blond wig and high heels.

According to a press release issued Thursday by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick Michael Koetter, 42, was arrested at approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday after BCSO received a call concerning a burglary in progress at the beauty shop located on Baldwin County Road 65 near County Road 26.

Deputy Craig Stoffle responded and made contact with a vehicle coming out of the business, the release said. Koetter, who was driving the vehicle, was detained while the crime scene was processed. Two witnesses came and identified Koetter, who confessed and was arrested.

According to the release, Koetter had disguised himself as a woman. He was wearing high heels and a blond wig.

“He broke into the beauty shop to see himself in the mirror dressed as a woman,” the release from Maj. Anthony Lowery’s office said.

“As we interviewed the owner of the beauty shop there was a very odd resemblance, he was dressed like the shop owner, hair and clothes.”

Koetter told officers he was not trying to look like the shop owner - “it was just a coincidence,” the release said - but the suspect also noted he did want to sit in her styling chair and see what he looked like in her chair dressed like her.

Koetter, whose address is Charolais Road, was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center on Thursday morning and charged with third-degree burglary. His bond was set at $5,000.

On Thursday, Lowery said he was uncertain how Koetter knew the beauty shop owner.
