DAPHNE, Ala.—Police took a Daphne man into custody for the alleged burglary of three Lake Forest homes Tuesday.

The suspect, Judson Hayward Buford Jr., 37, was charged with three counts of burglary in the third degree, and the stolen properties were recovered, police said.

Reports state that the police were called to a residence at the 400 block of Ridgewood Drive in the subdivision for a burglary, and officers found two other residences next door that had been burglarized while investigating the scene.

According to police, the suspect broke through the windows on the back of the houses sometime between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Reports state the suspect fled on foot with stolen property to woods behind the crime scenes. The suspect was lying next to a log with most of the stolen items and was taken into custody without incident by authorities, police stated.

“He hid some property in some places in the woods,”Daphne police Sgt. Brian Gulsby said. “It got dark, so we had to go back the next day and find the rest of the property.”

According to Gulsby, the stolen properties included jewelry, a wallet, a handgun, a University of South Alabama graduate medal and other pocket-sized valuables.

Three counts of third degree burglary usually carry a one- to 10-year sentence, but the suspect has been convicted of a felony multiple times, Gulsby said.

The suspect is not eligible for bail.
