Samuel David “Buck” “Pop” Burkett, 75, a native of Baldwin County and a resident of Satsuma, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 in Mobile.

He was a veteran in the U. S. Army, serving in multiple conflicts. He was extremely proud to have marched in the JFK Inaugural Parade.

“Pop” and his stories will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by two children, Dennis Randall and Joni Lynn Burkett; his parents, Bernie Hoyt and Gladys Styron Burkett; two sisters, Lavada Burkett and Sarah Wilson; and a brother, Wilford Burkett.

Survivors include his lifelong companion and the mother of his children, Ruby J. Burkett of Satsuma; six children, David (Lynn) Burkett of Axis, Karen (Terry) Dobbins of Pascagoula, Miss., Toni (Randy) McPherson of Satsuma, Dieter (Roswitha) Englebrecht of Munich, Germany, Mark Burkett of Houston, and Carol Burkett of China; brother, Frank Burkett of Spanish Fort, sister, Doris (Harold) Smith of Wickliff, Ky.; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces nephews and other loving relatives.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 12 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at Brook Cedron Cemetery.
